Brooklyn Office Complex Lures Large E-Tailer

The e-commerce purveyor of vintage and handmade goods, Etsy, has signed a lease for a substantial amount of space in Brooklyn to set up its headquarters. The company, which was founded in New York, has chosen to set up shop in the former Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Bible-printing plants that the Kushner Cos. and its co-investors bought last year.

Etsy is the first big tenant for the complex, located in the Dumbo Heights neighborhood. The buildings are being converted into “hip” office spaces in an effort to appeal to tech and new media industries that want to lease space in New York City but have expressed interest in Brooklyn rather than Manhattan. One amenity that tenants will enjoy is roof-deck space. The buildings are connected by walkways.

Etsy, which currently is working in 15,000 square feet of space, will make its move to the 200,000 square foot space in 2016. It announced the news on its blog.
